The First Academy Royals jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, as they went on to beat the Calvary Christian Warriors 49-28.
“We just installed some things that they hadn’t seen,” The First Academy Leroy Kinard said, reflecting on the Royals' fast start. “We put in a couple wrinkles and they didn’t have time to adjust to it. By the time they adjusted to it, we had put up 21 points.”
Rolous Frazier had two rushing touchdowns and a 94 yard kick return for a touchdown — which came after the Warriors had scored on their opening drive of the second half to trim the Royals lead to 28-14.
“Rolous (Frazier) is a college football player,” Kinard said. “He might be the best running back in Central Florida. … That kid is outstanding — great character kid — works hard, captain, does everything you want him to do.”
Matt Edwards threw three touchdowns for the Royals—all of which went to Lake Ellis.
Defensively, Jordan Pierre had an interception that set up The First Academy’s second touchdown of the game and recovered a fumble which he ran back for a touchdown in the third quarter.
“I thought the defense did a good job even though even though we gave up a couple of touchdown passes on double moves and one we thought was a push off, but the refs aren’t going to see everything,” Kinard stated of his defense’s performance. “But I thought for the most part I thought our defense played really well, getting turnovers and that’s what we ask them to do—play aggressive and getting turnovers.”
The Royals will be forced to make a quick turnaround, as they host the Tampa Bay Christian Rams on September 25 in a makeup game that was originally scheduled for September 14th.
“Get rest,” Kinard said on what his team needs to do in order to be ready on Tuesday night. “We gotta get rest, get healthy as you can, and just make sure our team is ready.”
