Finish — that’s what Ocoee head coach John “Sarge” Siers was looking for in the Knights’ game against Olympia Wednesday, Dec. 4.
After back to back games that saw Ocoee (1-2) blow its lead in the second half — losing by two points collectively — the Knights rebounded for their first win of the season in a 54-46 victory over the Titans (1-2).
The game stayed tight throughout the first half, before the Knights used a run to open the second quarter to find some breathing room thanks in part to David Green, who scored 10 of his game high of 20 points in the first half. Kordell Brown — who had 15 points total — added eight points himself in the opening half.
Being down 31-22 at the break didn't faze Olympia one bit, however, as the Titans chipped away at Ocoee’s lead. Good shooting and several missed free throws by Ocoee helped put Olympia within one point of the Knights midway through the fourth quarter, but that’s the closest the Titans would get.
Despite strong outings by Edgerrin James Jr. (14 points) and Julian Fletcher (12 points), the Titans couldn't take advantage of opportunities to put themselves out front late in the game — leading to a loss and to an Ocoee victory.
The Knights return to action Saturday, Dec. 7, in an away matchup with powerhouse Oak Ridge (1-0), while the Titans will look to rebound on the road against West Orange (1-2) Friday, Dec. 6.
