Fifth-graders at Oakland Avenue Charter School participated in a project to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the school held a program Jan. 18 to award the top students and their work.
The projects had to include a photo collage of MLK’s life, incorporating the qualities he portrayed and the accomplishments he achieved, as well as a rhyming poem explaining the collage.
During the awards ceremony, students watched Dr. King’s “I Had a Dream” speech before learning the results of the contest.
Jill Ferrell and Caroline Grieser won first place in the partner category, followed by Charlotte Davies and Olivia Patrick in second and Sofia Schafer and Leah Matthesen in third. Sophia Picciano and Raegan Krepcho received an Honorable Mention.
The individual winners were Connor Ives in first place, Kyndall Nix in second and Malley Mock in third. Cassidy Flakes received an Honorable Mention.
Most Creative Individual award went to Nix, and Most Creative Partners was awarded to Ferrell and Grieser. Ives also was recognized for originality.
