BREAKING: Crews on scene of house fire in Windermere area

OCFRD PIO Carrie Proudfit said that the fire department received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon from a neighbor who reported concerns that lightning had struck the house.

Proudfit confirmed that the suspected cause of the fire is a lightning strike. The 5,000-square-foot home is considered a total loss.

"Upon arrival crews encountered significant smoke from the attic of the home, as well as flames from the back side of the house," Proudfit said. "The home is, at this point, a total loss. The good news is that all of the homeowners are accounted for."

She added that crews are still actively working to take care of the remaining flare-ups, and Winter Garden Fire Rescue Department was also on scene.

"We always want to remind homeowners (not to) underestimate a lightning strike," Proudfit said. "If you think your home was struck by lightning, get out, call 911, get to safety (and) let us get out here."

The Orange County Fire Rescue Department is working to put out a fire at a Windermere home.

OCFRD officials confirmed the fire via Twitter just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 18. According to officials, crews are on scene at a house in the 12000 bock of Butler Bay Court in the Windermere Club neighborhood. 

OCFRD added that the structure is 75% involved and there are currently no reported injuries.
