Just in time for back-to-school season, Shepherd's Hope is in the midst of offering free physicals for uninsured students before the school year begins.
Shepherd's Hope is the largest free and charitable clinic in Florida, according to its website, and offers its services in five locations throughout the greater Orlando area. It offers health care to the uninsured and underinsured through the support of 2,800 volunteers. Last year, Shepherd's Hope states, it provided 19,033 patient visits and medical services.
Children up to age 18 are eligible for a free back-to-school physical. To qualify, children must be uninsured and have no other options. Appointments are necessary. Those without an appointment will be seen on a limited basis and must arrive one hour before the health centers open.
Physicals are offered at select locations on select dates and times:
1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1
9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 6
4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5
4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30
6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31
The required Florida Department of Health form will be issued upon completion of the physical examination. This form meets the state requirement for school enrollment, according to Shepherd's Hope.
The nonprofit also opened its brand-new West Orange location in Winter Garden on Wednesday, July 24, and marked the grand opening with the first day of free physicals.
