1. ASHLEY PEZZOTTI QUINTET: “WE’VE ONLY JUST BEGUN” CD RELEASE SHOW

8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave., Winter Park. Vocalist Ashley Pezzotti's first straight-ahead jazz album "We've Only Just Begun" features an array of original compositions inspired by the Great American Songbook. Her compositions are unique stories that draw from her own personal experiences, and those of people dear to her. Ashley also showcases her ability to tell a story through some of the great jazz standards featured on the album. 2. AVE MARIA: A CELEBRATION OF MOTHER’S DAY

3 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine, 8300 Vineland Ave., Orlando. The Basilica Choir and friends perform music in honor of the Mother of God and mothers everywhere among 10,000 roses. Individual concerts are $25; a season subscription to four concerts is $65. 3. EMERGE: NEW WORKS BY PAINTING AND DRAWING FELLOWSHIP AND STUDIO ARTISTS

7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Crealdé School of Art, 600 Saint Andrews Blvd., Winter Park. Emerging artists from the Crealdé Painting and Drawing program share their talent in work produced during their fellowships. The Crealdé Fellowship Program, since 1978, and the Studio Artist Program, since 1996, has mentored an average of 25 students per year through this work-study exchange. This exhibition is curated by Barbara Tiffany, Curator of Exhibitions. The opening reception is on Friday, May 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Showalter Hughes Community Gallery. 4. “HEARTBEATS” AT THE WINTER PARK PLAYHOUSE

Various showtimes from Friday, May 10, to Sunday, May 19, and Thursday, May 30, to Sunday, June 9, at the Winter Park Playhouse, 711 Orange Ave. Suite C, Winter Park. Come see this Central Florida premiere — a beautiful and comedic musical about a woman’s journey as she grows up, grows older and finds new happiness along the way. Filled with tremendous humor and insight, this contemporary musical illuminates the age-old conundrum known as “self-discovery.” The production features 20 songs by Amanda McBroom, including her hit song, “The Rose.” Tickets are $15 to $42. 5. PIGS & PASTIME FUNDRAISER IN MEMORY OF LT. JAMES KELLEY

4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Winter Garden Elks Lodge, 700 Ninth St. Join the Ocoee Fire Department and Ocoee Professional Firefighters, in conjunction with the Winter Garden Elks, for this fundraiser is memory of Lt. James Kelley. Enjoy a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and pork dinner. Proceeds benefit students in Ocoee and Winter Garden. (407) 905-3140.

 

6. SECOND ANNUAL BLOOMING FOR MOTHERS

10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at Ward Park, 2228 Loch Lomond Drive, Winter Park. Mother’s Day is right around the corner! Bring your children for some arts and crafts. Kids will get to decorate a flower pot with paint and/or stickers for their mother/guardian. After they paint the pot, they will then be able to fill up the pot with a flower seed and soil (with staff help). Aside from earning her journalism degree from the University of Georgia, she hasn’t strayed too far from her hometown and her three-mile bubble.
