Olympia's baseball season came to a tough close on Wednesday, May 22, as the Titans fell in a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Seminole in the Class 9A, Region 1 final.
After what was largely a pitching duel between Olympia's Jeslyn Whitehead and Seminole's Matt Allan, it was Allan's bat that helped send the Seminoles on to the state final four. Down to the last strike of the game for the Seminoles in the top of the seventh, and with a runner on base, Allan blasted a ball over the left-field fence to give the Seminoles a 4-3 lead.
The Titans would get out of the inning without any more damage done, but could not muster up a run — despite having two men on base — in the bottom of the seventh.
For the Titans, Alex Britton and Chase Dunlap would each go 2-for-3 at the plate. Through seven innings pitched, Whitehead gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out six.
The loss dropped the Titans to 23-6 to end the season, while the Seminoles improved to 21-9 and will now advance to the FHSAA state semifinal against Palm Beach Central.
