A member of the West Orange Babe Ruth 8U team, Kinley Casey is a multi-tool player who spends his time either on the mound or out at second base. A fan of the Atlanta Braves and Red Sox, Casey’s biggest highlight of his young baseball-playing career is hitting an in-the-park home run during a game.

What is your favorite thing about playing baseball?

I like fielding and batting — I like that I get to hit the ball.

What is the hardest thing about playing baseball?

Not doing the right thing. Making the throw to the base — (the hardest part is) how high or low I throw it.

How long have you been playing baseball for, and have you played other positions besides second and pitcher?

I’ve played for three years. And yeah, I’ve played outfield, shortstop and third before.

Do you have a favorite player that you enjoy watching?

I have a favorite team and player — I like the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox, and my favorite player is Freddie Freeman (he’s on the Braves). I just like him.

If you could play another position, what would you want to play?

Except for pitcher? Shortstop — yeah, (it comes at you fast) but I could go get the ball.

Is baseball your favorite sport? And are there any other sports you enjoy?

Yeah, but I like other sports. I like football and hockey — in hockey I like the (Boston) Bruins and in football I like the (New England) Patriots.

What’s one thing you’re working on to get better at when it comes to baseball?

My hitting, because this machine comes in really fast. It’s right down the middle usually.

Outside of playing baseball, what do you enjoy doing?

I like to play outside and play video games — I play a lot.

After you finish playing, what’s your favorite thing to eat?

Usually pizza. I like a regular plain cheese pizza (from) the Winter Garden Pizza Company.

If you could visit anyplace in the world, where would you want to go?

The (Atlanta) Braves’ ballpark — I haven’t been to either one (the old or new stadium).

I heard you got to do something special during one of the Atlanta Braves’ spring training games this season. What did you get to do?

I got to (go on the field and) put the rosin bag up there on the pitcher’s mound. I was nervous.

Since you’ve been playing baseball, is there a moment that stands out to you?

An infield home run. I hit it to the fence and I went all the way around.
