Orange County Public Schools' hurricane make-up day originally slated for Monday, Nov. 25, has been waived.
During the Sept. 24 School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins waived the make-up day to ensure the Thanksgiving week break remains intact for families and employees.
Jenkins could only waive one of the two instructional days missed since there weren't enough instructional minutes in the OCPS school year to waive more than one day. However, the hurricane season doesn't end until Nov. 30. If needed, according to OCPS, Nov. 25 is still the second prioritized day that would be used.
The district also proposed to switch the first prioritized make-up day from Friday, Oct. 18, to Thursday, Oct. 17. This is still awaiting approval by the Classroom Teachers Association. Should it not be approved, the make-up day will remain Oct. 18. The school calendar and list of prioritized bad-weather days are posted here.
