Students attending Horizon West's newest elementary school this fall officially can call it by its new name.

The Orange County School Board chose during its meeting Tuesday, April 14, to name the school, formerly known as Site 85-E-W-4, after the community it's located in. Summerlake Elementary School is under construction at 15450 Porter Road in Winter Garden.

The School Board picked the name from the top three chosen by the community: Summerlake Elementary, Hamlin Elementary and Lake Hancock Elementary. According to an OCPS news release, the School Board chose Summerlake Elementary to best represent the school's location.

The school, which will open its doors this fall, relieves Independence and Water Spring elementary schools. The $24.3 million project was designed by Rhodes + Brito Architects and is being built by OHL Building.
