The Windermere High School family once again finds itself mourning the loss of one if its own this school year.
Principal Doug Guthrie shared the news with families Tuesday, Feb. 25, through a Connect Orange message over the phone, asking everyone to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
“It is with a heavy heart that I’m calling to let you know the tragic death of one of our students,” Guthrie said.
“Grief counselors are available on campus if your child needs to speak with someone,” he said. “Parents, please take this time to talk to your child. Any reaction is normal in the grief process and I encourage you to openly discuss their feelings and reactions.”
Windermere High School also reached out to its families through a Facebook post, offering a website link for tips on preventing youth suicide.
“(There) are no words to describe the intense grief that is being felt amongst each of us this afternoon,” the post read. “With the loss of any student, there are always so many questions. We ask at this time that you respect the grief of each of our students and staff, especially the family of the student who is no longer with us.”
