Big bats and consistent pitching helped the West Orange High softball team take a big 11-1 win over rival Ocoee in a mercy-rule shortened five innings Thursday, Feb. 27.
Despite giving up a run in the top of the first, senior pitcher Riley Fromberg shut down the Knights' offense for the most part, as she finished the night giving up just the one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking two in five full innings of work.
At the plate the Warriors (3-1) found success early on, as they scored six runs through the first two innings alone before going on to score two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Five batters recorded at least one RBI for the Warriors, with Ailey Schyck — who went 2-for-2 in three plate appearances and picked up four RBI on a home run and a single, while accounting three runs — leading the way. Senior Camryn Siemer would add on by going 2-for-2 in three plate appearances with three runs.
For the Knights (2-2), Emily Gable would score a run on a 1-for-1 night.
Next up for the Warriors is a home matchup against East Ridge (4-0) Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m., while Ocoee will host Wekiva (0-3) Monday, March 2, at 4 p.m.
