It’s been more than 10 years since Windermere resident Don Lohr started The Crew Big Band. The group is still going strong. Lohr started The Crew as a creative outlet for fellow players in the Orlando area.

“I said I was going into the Navy, not the Army,” Windermere resident Evelyn Doss said. “I made sure they understood that.” So she did, enlisting in 1944 in the WAVES — Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service.
