A wrong-way driver crashed into a school bus carrying 21 Windermere High students in the Summerlake area Thursday morning, officials said.

According to a report from Florida Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Joseph Sullivan, of Windermere, was driving his 2014 Infiniti southbound in the northbound lanes of Seidel Road near Bowery Drive at 6:35 a.m. Sullivan reportedly stated that he was confused because of construction in the area and realized he was on the wrong side of the road.

Officials said he then abruptly traveled into the southbound lane and into the direct path of the school bus, which also was traveling southbound on Seidel Road. The front of the school bus struck the right side of the Infiniti.

No children on board the bus were hurt. Officials said that Sullivan and 40-year-old Sandra Edouazin, the bus driver, were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Sullivan was ticketed with careless driving.
