PHOTOS: Windermere girls basketball holds off West Orange in 42-38 win

In a game of rivals, the Windermere Wolverines came out on top as they snuck by West Orange High on the basketball court in a 42-38 win Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Despite the close final score, it was all Windermere (12-4) early on as the Wolverines jumped out to a 13-0 lead, before a three pointer from West Orange’s Camryn Siemer stopped the bleeding. The senior guard would go on to finish with a team high of 16 points.

The Warriors (9-8) would find their footing in the second quarter before going into the half down 22-12 — thanks in part to Siemer’s seven points in the first half.

After surviving a shaky start to the game, the Warriors — in front of a raucous Windermere home crowd — began to make a push. In a little under five minutes into the third quarter, the Warriors would take their first lead of the game on a layup from Siemer — from there the Warriors and Wolverines exchanged blows.

Over the course of the third quarter — and well into the fourth quarter — the game had seen a half dozen lead changes, before junior guard Abigail Crain hit a layup with under 5:30 left to give the Wolverines the 34-32 lead. Crain would score 10 of her game high 17 points in the second half, and Windermere wouldn’t give up the lead again.

Along with Crain’s offensive output, teammate Ashley Vargas added on 13 points herself in the win for the Wolverines.

Next up for the Wolverines is an away matchup with Ridge Community Friday, Jan. 17, while the Warriors look to rebound in an away game at Ocoee Friday, Jan. 17.
