After spending most of December and January searching for its new head football coach, West Orange High School has finally found its guy in Michael Granato.
Granato, whose hiring was announced this afternoon, takes over a program seeking stability after seeing two head coaches come and go since the 2018 season. Based on his track record the Warriors program is on the right path.
A graduate of Florida State University, Granato has taught and coached at multiple schools in the Orange County Public School system — he was most recently at Edgewater High School. He also coached at Madison County and Seminole High School.
During his 14 years in football, Granato has been a part of three state championship finalist teams — which includes being on the football staff at Edgewater during the Eagles' run to the state finals during the 2019 season. The Eagles fell 28-23 to St. Thomas Aquinas, but finished the year at 13-2.
For those parents, players and interested players who want to meet their new coach, West Orange High School is hosting a meet and greet Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the cafeteria from 6 to 7 p.m.
A full feature profile on Coach Granato will be in the Feb. 6 edition of the West Orange Times & Observer, as well as the Southwest Orange Observer.
