In a rather bare agenda for the Ocoee City Commission’s meeting tonight — Tuesday, June 16 — the commission will look at possibly acquiring a 1-acre cemetery located at 441 Basking Ridge Court.

The city currently mows and maintains the property, but after unsuccessful attempts to contact the listed owners, the commission — during its meeting Jan. 7, 2020 — asked city staff to work with the city’s eminent domain attorney about acquiring the property.

After the appraisal of the property — which is in excess of $60,000 — city staff anticipates that the cost to acquire the cemetery property via eminent domain could be anywhere between $20,000 and $100,000.

As of the moment the city only has plans to make minor improvements to the property — such as a bench, gazebo or something similar in nature. Even if the city does not acquire the property it will still continue to maintain it.

A FEW ITEMS OF NOTE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA
