A two-touchdown night for Chloe Matthews-Boultbee was enough to push the Dr. Phillips flag football team past Windermere during their matchup on the gridiron at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park Wednesday, Feb. 4.
After a scoreless first quarter the Panthers found their backs against the wall after the Wolverines drove into the red zone, but an interception by Jordan Ward of Windermere quarterback Sara Pedraza in the end zone with 6:07 left in the half killed the drive.
Later in the second quarter, the Panthers would draw first blood when Ni'kira Smith hit Matthews-Boultbee for a 20-plus yard touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful — holding the Panthers' lead at 6-0 with :25 to go in the half.
The Panthers' offense would keep things going strong out of the gate in the second half, when Asiana Govan connected with Matthews-Boultbee on a shovel pass for the two-yard touchdown at the 6:22 mark. Govan would then toss a short pass to Michelle Levitt for the extra point, extending the Panthers' lead to 13-0.
Less than five minutes later Windermere would strike back for the Wolverines' lone score of the game, as Pedraza connected with Kayla Green on a short touchdown. The extra point failed, but the Wolverines had cut the lead to 13-6 with 1:37 left in the third quarter.
Windermere would have one last chance late in the fourth quarter, but an interception by Govan ended the Wolverines' chances with 26 seconds left to seal up the 13-6 victory for the Panthers.
