All season the Legacy Charter Eagles baseball team has utilized strong pitching and an explosive offense to win games — that streak continued in the Eagles' 7-2 win over Foundation Academy Thursday, March 12.
The Eagles (9-2) put up three runs through the first two innings, before going on to notch four runs later in the sixth. It was the seventh time in 11 games that Legacy had scored more than five runs.
At the plate the Eagles were led by junior Brandon Correia who went 3-for-3 in four plate appearances, with a run scored and an RBI, while sophomore Adonis Stewart picked up a run scored and RBI on a 1-for-3 outing. Sophomore Jaden Oyola added two runs himself while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Lions (5-4) would find some offense themselves in the bottom of the sixth, when sophomore Gray Fitzpatrick knocked in an RBI-single to cut the Eagles' lead to 7-1, before a wild pitch netted another for the Lions. Outside of those two runs, the usually potent Lions' offense was held in check by Legacy pitchers Jacob Worley and sophomore Colby McClure.
Worley ended up going 5.2 innings, giving up only one earned run on five hits, while striking out six and walking three. McClure would get the win and the save by going 1.1 innings — walking one and striking out three.
With spring break next week, the Lions and Eagles will get some downtime before moving on to their next games. Legacy will travel to Covenant Christian (Monday, March 23), while Foundation will host Mount Dora Christian Academy (Tuesday, March 24).
