After falling 3-1 the night before against Lyman, Dr. Phillips got back into the groove of things as the Panthers swept West Orange 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-21) Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The Panthers (1-1) dominated through the game's first two sets — leading the Warriors (0-1) by as many as 14 points in the second set.
In the following — and final — set, West Orange came out firing and led 6-3 to start things off. What followed was a tightening in the middle of the set that was led by the Warriors, before the Panthers rallied ahead 16-15 and never let their lead diminish to take the third set.
The Warriors were led by sophomore outside hitter Madison Smith's 11 kills and 11 digs, and senior setter Regan Washington's 23 assists and nine digs. Senior libero Tristan Tucci added 24 digs and five assists.
For the Panthers, senior setter Olivia Osuna recorded a game high 38 assists, while senior right-side hitter Alicia Virthe recorded 14 kills and five digs. Senior outside hitter Kaley Landis had 13 kills and six digs, and senior outside hitter Alexis Distasio had seven kills and eight digs.
