Dr. Phillips started off its 2020 football season with a high-scoring affair, as the Panthers held off a stubborn Boone team in a 48-41 on the road Friday, Sept. 18.
In the Panthers' eighth-straight win over the Braves, Amir Johnson and Jaydan Taylor dominated on the ground for Dr. Phillips. Johnson alone ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, while Taylor picked up 122 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Throw in quarterback Joe Joe Patti's 164 yards through the air on 10-of-21 passing, and the Panthers' offense was clicking — scoring 27 points in the opening half.
Despite being up 48-20 midway through the fourth quarter, Dr. Phillips watched as Boone racked up three touchdowns in the span of about six minutes to cut the lead to 48-41, before time finally ran out on the Braves.
No Dr. Phillips will take to the road, as the Panthers face off against Apopka (1-0) Friday, Sept. 25.
