After falling behind early in their match against The First Academy, the Windermere Prep girls volleyball team rallied to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-19) victory over the Royals in Citrus League play Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The Royals (0-3) kept a two-to-three point lead throughout the opening set before ultimately winning it, before the Lakers (2-3) went on a three-set winning run.
In the second set the Lakers jumped out to a 10-5 lead, before the Royals cut the lead to two at 16-14 — the Lakers would eventually stretch out there lead for a 25-22 win. The third set, while finishing at a wider margin — 25-20 — saw the tightest action of the night as the Royals tied things up at 12-12 after Windermere Prep led the set up to that point. The Lakers would pull away midway through the set to win it.
The fourth and final set would see Windermere Prep go on a 6-0 run to start, and the Lakers wouldn't look back as they won 25-19.
Windermere Prep was led by a big night from sophomore Julia Kane's 14 kills and 14 digs, while senior Natalie Work racked up 13 kills and three assists. Eighth grader Tyler Peluso picked up 34 assists, and freshman Ila Demutis added 11 digs and three assists as well.
The Lakers and Royals will face one another again at TFA on Thursday, Oct. 1.
