The Orange County Sheriff's Office is looking to hire individuals to serve the community.

The OCSO is looking for locals to join the team as 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers.

The sheriff's office says the communication center personnel save lives every day.

"We are the one who they call first when they're the most panicked," 9-1-1 call taker and dispatcher, Jessica Jennings said. "It's up to us to get them calm and get the information we need for the deputies to get there and understand what's going on."

The department is offering a $2,000 bonus upon completion of training and specialty pay upon start.

The team averages anywhere from 1.3 million to 1.6 million calls annually, which translates to 4,000 to 5,000 calls daily.
