For a little over 90 minutes West Orange and Windermere battled it out on the soccer pitch, and for that hour-and-a-half neither side could break through during Thursday — Feb. 4 — night's Class 7A, District 5 tournament semifinal at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park.
Then, 30 seconds into the second overtime, West Orange's Tia Wynn changed everything.
With the swing of a heavy boot from midfield, the sophomore blasted a shot that seemed to float in the air for an eternity before it somehow dropped right over the keeper's head and into the back of the net, which ignited a celebration of both excitement and bewildered disbelief at the shot itself.
Wynn's goal would prove to be the all West Orange needed, giving the Warriors a hard fought 1-0 win over their rival, and a berth into the district championship game against East Ridge at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 9. The game will take place at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park
