With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, West Orange senior Tracy Mitchem stepped up when his team needed him the most. On a 1-0 count, Mitchem loaded up and drilled a shot out to right field to record a game winning RBI single to hand the Warriors a 4-3 walk-off win against rival Windermere Friday, March 26.
Going into the seventh inning the Warriors (8-6) held onto a 3-1 lead thanks in part to the pitching prowess of junior Will Ross — who gave up only four hits and one run in six innings, while recording seven strikeouts. But then, with a few swings of the bat, the Wolverines (9-5) started their late rally.
With one out and runners on second and third, Ryan Taylor dumped a ball into left field, scoring Jordan Dozier and Max Pickert to tie things up at 3-3. West Orange pitcher Kai Knudholt — who was put in to start the inning — would get out of the inning without anymore damage done and go on to record the win.
Titan Kamaka led the way at the plate for the Warriors as he went 2-for-2 and picked up two RBIs — which included a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and a single in the third. Ricky Reeth recorded the Warriors other run after grounding into a fielder's choice in the third inning.
For the Wolverines, Caden Simpson went 1-for-3 with an RBI single (in the second inning), while Cannon Feazell went six-full innings on the mound — giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out three.
Next up for the Warriors is another rivalry matchup against Ocoee Monday, March 29, while the Wolverines will host East Ridge at home Tuesday, March 30.
