St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is encouraging locals to run through Windermere for a good cause next week.

The ZOE 5k will benefit children in Rwanda and Zimbabwe, who once lived in poverty, become entrepreneurs, providers, and leaders in their community who know their worth and abilities, through ministry, according to a press release from St. Luke's.

The children in those areas spend hours on a day-to-day in basis life-sustaining functions, walking for water, food and supplies, to work, to gain access to health care, to school or vocational training, to shops and places of business, and to meetings where they learn their rights and seek justice for wrong.

The run and walk aims to raise $8,500 to fund the new empowerment group.

Runners and walkers of all ages, strollers, and dogs are all welcome. Both in-person and virtual options are available.

The run will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, and check-in will start as early as 7 a.m.

The run will take place at Starting Line at Family Church, formerly the First Baptist Church of Windermere, at 300 Main St.

Registration is $30 per runner or walker and $15 per child age 12 and under.

Registration can be done here

The race is also still looking for volunteers.
