The holiday shopping season is back and the Orange County Sheriff's Office is helping to make sure residents shop safely.

The OCSO recently reiterated its "Burglar Boxes" program in an effort to prevent robbery and other crime.

The Burglar Boxes program, started in the past few years, gives residents an opportunity to discard boxes from expensive items in a place other than in the garbage in front of their home.

Law enforcement agencies across Central Florida have partnered up with garbage and recycling companies to make the effort possible.

According to deputies, leaving boxes from “big-ticket-item” gifts on the curb in front of your house leaves you open to potential burglars.

Local West Orange Burglar Boxes can be found at the following locations:

- OCSO Sector 3 Sub-Station at 475 W. Story Road

- Saint Luke's United Methodist Church at 4851 S. Apopka-Vineland Road

- Winn-Dixie at 11957 S. Apopka-Vineland Road

A full list of Burglar Box locations can be found on the OCSO website.
