Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings is planning to kick off his re-election campaign in downtown Orlando tonight.

Demings was originally sworn in on Dec. 4, 2018 as the fifth elected mayor of Orange County and is the first African-American to serve in the role. In his position, he oversees more than 8,000 Orange County employees.

The mayor filed to keep his job on Monday, Oct. 18.

Tonight, he will formally begin his re-election campaign with a rally at Ace Cafe Orlando at 5:30 p.m.

Demings is seeking a second full term in the county’s most powerful office, which oversees a $5.2 billion budget.

Throughout his first term he has led the county through its ongoing battle with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mayor's wife, U.S. Rep. Val Demings, will also be in full-on campaign mode as she takes on Sen. Marco Rubio.
