September is Hunger Action Month and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is asking the community to get involved.
The Hunger Action Month campaign by Feeding America helps to inspire people to get involved and to raise awareness about the hunger issues in America. Second Harvest Food Bank is helping to bring that focus to Central Florida.
“The community is still reeling from the last 18 months, and with every donation we receive, we are able to provide more families with food so that they’re not faced with choosing between that and other critical items,” said Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in a press release. “Don’t underestimate the power of donating, advocating or simply choosing to educate yourself. Every action taken this Hunger Action Month feeds hope in our community.”
Due to the impact of COVID-19, the food bank is more in need for donations than ever. As part of Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest is asking the community to help “Stock the Shelves” this September.
The month-long effort provides various opportunities for community members to get involved including a virtual food drive, a virtual "Food for Thought" tour, encouraging residents to wear orange on Sept. 17 for Hunger Action Day and more.
Community members are also encouraged to donate and volunteer when they can.
