Geiliany Del Valle — or simply “G” to her friends — plays for Foundation Academy’s varsity volleyball team as a setter. In addition to the Lions, she plays on the Top Select Volleyball club team coached by her father, German. In 2019, Del Valle played in the finals of the USAV nationals and finished third at the AAU national volleyball tournament.
What do you like about going to school at Foundation Academy?
I like how it feels like a family and how the staff actually cares about the students.
Did you like volleyball right away?
I’ve been around volleyball my whole life. I didn’t want to play it at first, but when I started playing, I actually liked it.
What’s the best thing about volleyball?
I like when you play getting that energy from the court, and I love being surrounded by people who like to play volleyball as well.
How did you become a setter?
My dad trained me to be a setter, and that’s how it started. I like to be in control of a lot of things, and I can control things around me when I set.
What are your goals for volleyball?
I hope to make it to a good D-I college and play professionally. Either the University of Florida or the University of Kentucky.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to read. One of my favorite books is a book called "Faceless.” It’s about a girl (who) goes for a jog. She gets struck by lightning, and she has to get a face transplant. It’s about how her life changes from then on.
Favorite movie?
“Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2”
Favorite TV or Netflix show?
“Friends”
Favorite food?
My mom’s lasagna. It has to be my mom’s lasagna; I won’t eat anyone else’s.
Disney or Universal?
Disney. I like the Magic Kingdom, and my favorite ride is Space Mountain.
If you could be any Disney character, who would you be?
Moana. I like that she has a lot of courage and she’s not really afraid. I want to be like her.
Favorite non-Disney cartoon character?
Spongebob Squarepants.
What’s an interesting thing about you that no one else would expect to know?
Before I did volleyball, I did ballet. That surprises a lot of people, because I’m a terrible dancer.
