Dr. Phillips High School swimmer, junior Gabo Morales broke a long-standing school record in the 100-yard backstroke during the Spruce Creek Record Breaker Invitational on Saturday.
Morales went a time of 52.41 to break the former record that was held for 25 years by Brendan Masterson by one one-hundredth of a second. Masterson’s time was 52.42, which he set in 1996.
Morales was not shaved or rested, nor did he wear a tech suit when he set the record.
Dr. Phillips’ next meet is against Lake Nona on Sept. 22.
