Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is celebrating “Be a Good Neighbor Day” by asking locals to get involved in donating to benefit their community and others.

Be a Good Neighbor Day is a national observance day that seeks to encourage neighbors to be good to each other while creating positive change in the community.

Kate Quinones, spokesperson for Goodwill, said donations go far past benefiting just the nonprofit. She said donations play a key role in generating revenue, which then funds employment training and job opportunities for Central Floridians.

Residents are encouraged to donate at least one item at their local Goodwill store or Donation Xpress Center. Items can include gently used clothing, household goods and certain electronics, including lamps, MP3 players, iPods and clock radios in working condition. The company will also accept computers and cell phones in working and non-working condition.

Kim Praniewicz, director of marketing and mission advancement for Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, said the company prides itself in being a good neighbor not only on this specific day, but all year round.

"We certainly do our best to try and provide the community with access to a multitude of different resources," Praniewicz said. "Low cost goods, job connection programs, job skill training, and even a virtual job connection center are only a handful of the other opportunities we offer."

Praniewicz said the company is very blessed to be in Central Florida.

"Central Florida residents are very kind and they donate good to us in any way they can," Praniewicz said.
