Ocoee to consider pet-sale regulation ordinance tonight

The Ocoee City Commission will hold its second readings on the ordinances pertaining to the restriction of pet store sales and a temporary moratorium on self-storage facilities at its Sept. 21 meeting. 

There are 11 self-storage facilities in Ocoee, and the commission is looking whether to establish a moratorium on building more. It also will look into whether the plots can be used for commercial space instead. 

During the commission’s first reading of the pet store ordinance on its Sept. 7 meeting, the commission decided to delay a vote to give it more time to look at the policies of stores such as PetSmart. 

Orange County has a ban on the sales of dogs, cats and rabbits within the county.

The commission also will hold first readings on creating a fee for fingerprinting services at the Ocoee Police Department. The current cost is $5 for both Ocoee residents and non-residents. The proposed ordinance would increase the fees to $10 for residents and $25 for non-residents. 

Other first readings include a resolution to reestablish the Parks and Recreation advisory board and a proposal by Starbucks to build a location near the approved Fountain West site.
