Today, Tuesday, Sept. 28 is Giving Day at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.
We originally told you about the tragic fire that broke out at the shelter on Sept. 15 here.
The shelter lost 23 cats to the fire, but firefighters and staff were able to save all of the dogs and transport the animals to the Sanford location for assessment and care.
Since then, Pet Alliance said they are "in awe of the thousands of individuals and businesses that immediately came to our aide and made monetary and supply donations," according to a press release from the organization.
Giving Day focuses on the organization's shelter pets, the dogs and cats that come to Pet Alliance with nowhere else to turn. Gifts granted on Giving Day will support Pet Alliance's ongoing operations at their Sanford facility and ensure they have the resources to set up a long-term temporary sheltering space and facility in Orlando.
All donations made on Giving Day will be matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 by the Sherry Chappell Cooper Foundation.
"We want to help as many dogs and cats as possible as we work towards building a new permanent home in Orlando," Pet Alliance said in a press release. "We can't do this without you!"
Throughout the day, Pet Alliance will also be livestreaming their puppy, kitten, and dog play groups. Those who wish to view the livestreams at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. can tune in on the Pet Alliance Facebook.
