Embrace Families is hosting a plethora of events in order to recognize and educate the community on Child Abuse Prevention Month.

According to the World Health Organization, more than one billion children worldwide are exposed to violence every year.

Embrace Families, the lead nonprofit agency overseeing child welfare in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, aims to bring attention to the statistic through a number of educational events to raise awareness and promote advocacy.

In order to do this, throughout the month of April the nonprofit is kicking off its sixth annual MANicure Movement. The movement is "a grassroots effort designed to start serious conversations in a visual way," according to the event's website.

Child welfare advocates will keep one fingernail, usually the index finger, painted blue to draw attention to the fact that one in five children will suffer abuse before the age of 18.

In addition, the nonprofit will host a special webinar every week featuring different experts and covering a variety of topics.

Each webinar will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will run for about 60 to 90 minutes.

The upcoming events can be found below...

  • Wednesday, April 6: The Dynamics of Child Abuse
  • Thursday, April 14: When Children are Trafficked: Intersection with the Child Welfare System
  • Friday, April 22: The New Sex Ed: Addressing Pornography and Consent
  • Wednesday, April 27: Helping Kids Cope: Addressing Trauma with Care

After each completed session, participants will receive an official MANicure Movement training certificate.

Pre-registration for the above events is required and can be done here.
