As the Ocoee High School football team continues to write more pages on the Knight Nation history books, the school celebrated their success with an emotional send off prior to the team's departure to Miami Friday, Dec. 2.
Everything started with breakfast biscuits donated to the team by the local Chick-fil-A and McDonald's. Once the players had eaten their choice of "chicken or sausage," they lined up and prepared to walk through the school's courtyard where the students, and the Ocoee High School band and cheer squad, were waiting for them.
The event was quite extraordinary. Knights held personalized banners from left to right and students cheered on the team as loud as they could while the crowd made its way to the school's bus loop.
Once at the bus loop, some students began to chant "Ocoee, Ocoee!" and after a few seconds, hundreds joined, the words echoing through the walls of the school as the last players entered the buses.
Ocoee Mayor Rusty Johnson and Commissioner George Oliver were present at the event to show their support.
Regardless of the result tonight, this day will definitely live in the hearts of all who were present for years to come.
The Knights will be playing Columbus High School at the state semifinal game at 7 p.m. today in Miami.
