The Central Florida Expressway Authority began construction activities May 31 on State Road 429 from Tilden Road to south of Florida’s Turnpike to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
This 3.6-mile SR 429 Capacity Improvements Project (Segment 1) will add a travel lane in each direction, expanding the expressway from four to six lanes (three travel lanes in each direction). In addition, wider median shoulders to temporarily accommodate traffic during emergency response events are being added.

Ten sound walls also are planned for this segment.
During construction, temporary lane and ramp closures will be necessary to accommodate work. Daytime operations, including pile driving, are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while night work is scheduled from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
