One dead in single-vehicle crash at Turkey Lake service plaza

The medical examiner will update Florida Highway Patrol once the body is identified.

Florida High Patrol officers are investigating an early-morning deadly crash at the Turkey Lake service plaza on Florida's Turnpike.

According to FHP reports, at about 5:22 a.m. Thursday, June 9, a driver of a 2020 Chevy Trax lost control while traveling northbound on a side service road by the Turkey Lake service plaza. The driver struck a curb and ran off the roadway. Then, the vehicle struck a utility pole, caught fire and became fully engulfed. The driver was pronounced dead on-scene. 

The medical examiner is working on identifying the body of the deceased. Once the body is identified, the Florida Highway Patrol will be notified. 

The incident remains under investigation.
