Paper Goat Post opens in Baldwin Park

Megan and Cedar Watson’s mom taught them how to give to others in a thoughtful way. 

Now, they are passing on the same way of gifting to the community through their family business — Paper Goat Post. 

Paper Goat Post fulfills all of one’s needs for planning any type of special event — all in one location, which now happens to be situated in Baldwin Park. 

The twins combine their love for paper and party needs through the use of their multitude of services, including customizable invitations, personalized stationery, the Balloon and Gift Wrap Bar and The Party Room. 

The possibilities at the shop are endless, which is why Megan and Cedar believe they have something for everyone. 

“We just love our friends, our family and our community, as well, so we try to showcase that love as best as we can throughout our store and in all of our products,” Cedar says. 

TWO PEAS IN A POD

The twins always have been close. 

“It’s definitely an asset having two of us,” Megan says. “I think we complement each other, and we definitely have similarities of styles and likes, but the shop is kind of a perfect combination of both of us.”

The pair shared if one of them is too far on one side or the other when it comes to a topic, they pull themselves back in, following a rule they’ve had since the establishment of their business. 

“If one of us is a strong ‘no’ on something, in any aspect of business, then we just drop the subject,” Megan says. “Everything else we can talk about. But if it’s a hard ‘no,’ then we drop it.”

Growing up, the twins say their families hosted birthday parties every year. No matter how big or small, the festivities were some of their best childhood memories. 

As inspiration from their mom, Megan and Cedar follow three main philosophies: the lost art of snail mail, gathering in celebration and the thoughtful art of giving.

“I love just helping our customers make entertaining and gathering simple, easy and attainable,” Cedar says. “It doesn’t have to be over-the-top and lavish. Although we love that and can help do that, it doesn’t have to be. So I think really (it is) bringing things that we love from our past and products that we love into our customers’ lives, as well.”

As far as the name, the catchy phrase was created after a family vacation during which the twins held baby goats. The photo is now framed in the center of the store. 

The name happened to be perfect. The year the business opened in 2015, it was the “Year of the Goat” on the Chinese zodiac.

BUSINESS BACKGROUND

The closeness the twins share has even been reciprocated in their school and business backgrounds. 

Megan and Cedar came to Orlando in 2002 when they enrolled at the University of Central Florida. And they’ve never left.

The pair studied hospitality and then kicked off their careers at Universal Orlando Resort, where they helped with event planning, production, grand openings and more. 

They enjoyed their work, but they say they really loved “the small details” they didn’t get to do in the corporate world. 

That’s how Paper Goat Post was born. 

Although the Baldwin Park location is set to be the best one yet, it was not the first brick-and-mortar location. 

Paper Goat Post called Ivanhoe Village in north downtown Orlando home for six-and-one-half years. 

The business grew over time, and the sisters refined their services and products as they learned more about people’s wants and needs. 

However, not everything evolved. Megan and Cedar say it was always essential to them to keep strong roots in the community.

“We’re excited to call Baldwin our little hometown and still serve the Greater Orlando area,” Megan says. “Being a central place, a safe place for everyone to come, kind of like an open-door policy like you would have in your house, you want to invite everyone in, so we wanted to be that place for our customers.”

PAPER PARTY PRODUCTS

Perhaps one of the shop’s greatest attributes, aside from its strong connection with the community and emphasis on customer service, is its wide array of products and services.

A customer favorite, The Party Room, is a creative space flexible for any gathering or celebration. The owners host monthly Craftly Parties and weekly Play Parties, and invite others to host showers, birthdays, dinner parties or even a private workshop. 

A popular but lesser-known service is the store’s invitation services, through which customers can create perfectly printed invitations for any occasion. 

Personalized stationery with a variety of customizable styles of note cards, gift tags, writing sheets, notepads and more, is yet another option. Party planners can even start or end an occasion on the perfect note with the store’s Balloon and Gift Wrap Bar. 

The business held its soft opening mid-March and its grand opening mid-April. 

The twins say they are now shifting their focus to building a “Team William” group of employees — named after the goat logo. 

“We really want to grow a team in this location and extend our offerings through our team that’s here so we can have a lot more resources within the company to grow,” Megan says. “We want to feel really established with a solid team of people who get to know the community and who are here for longevity.”
