The Orange County Public Works Department has made significant safety improvements to the intersection of Clarcona-Ocoee Road and Gaymar Drive where a fatal crash claimed five lives in March 2021.

In response, Orange County Public Works installed a new traffic signal at the intersection that became operational May 3. A site analysis determined adding a traffic signal would improve safety at that location. Public Works’ Traffic Engineering division accelerated the process of installing the traffic signal by using internal resources, saving nearly a year in design and construction. In addition, pavement markings showing the speed limit were installed approaching the intersection as well as speed feedback signs.

Public Works also conducted a speed management study along Clarcona-Ocoee Road between Ocoee Apopka Road and U.S. 441. Results from the study determined additional safety and speed reduction measures will be implemented along the busy corridor.
