The Windermere Police Department is less than a month away from the next step in earning accreditation.

A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation will arrive Tuesday, Dec. 13, to examine all aspects of the department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

The department is required to comply with numerous standards in order to receive accredited status. According to the WPD, many of the standards are critical to life, health, safety issues and best practices.

As part of the accreditation assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team.

A copy of the standards manual is available here.

Earning accreditation has been one of Chief David Ogden's goals since he joined the department. The accreditation process is led by accreditation program manager retired Deputy Chief Jennifer Treadwell.

For more information regarding CFA or to offer written comments about the WPD’s ability to meet the standards of accreditation, residents can send correspondence to: CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida, 32302, or email [email protected].
