The 23rd annual USA Memory Championship will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Full Sail University in Winter Park.
But, what is the USA Memory Championship? According to its website, the championship is a competition for ‘thinking’ games and it is set up just like any other sporting event but, in this case, for Mental Athletes.
"The tournament consists of memory challenging tournament-style competitive events including memorization of 135 names and faces, a shuffled deck of cards, an unpublished poem, and speed numbers," the USA Memory Championship website reads.
According to a press release, eleven finalists advanced after the virtual qualifying round that was held on July 30. The competitors range from 14 to 50 years old and come from different states around the country such as New York, California, Florida, among others.
Host and founder of the USA Memory Championship Tony Dottino said in the press release, "Memory is a skill that anyone can improve if they have the willingness to learn and practice."
Between events, presenters will provide the audience with tips on how to improve their memory. Among the speakers who will talk at the championship are Dr. Robert Ajemian, neuroscience researcher at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT.
"We strive to test as many different types of memory as possible," Ajemian said in the press release. "The competitors' performance is a fantastic demonstration of the power of human memory."
The championship will take place in the production studio at Full Sail University so attendance is limited. If you would like to attend in person email [email protected]. Requests for seating will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For those who would prefer to watch the event from the comfort of their homes, it will be live streamed on the USA Memory Championship YouTube Channel.
