The Horizon High School girls swimming team defeated the Freedom High School girls 89-74 while the boys fell short to the Patriots 91-78 during a meet Wednesday, Sept. 7.
While the girls pushed through bringing their season score to 2-2, the Patriots put up a tough fight, as the score was tied prior to the last four events of the meet — where the Hawks were able to pull ahead.
Besides having the 200 medley relay break the school record, the boys had a few first finishes during the meet, including Lucca Costa in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:13.25 and Ian Batoni Cazella in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.94.
The girls also had a few first places as well as a school record break. Among these were Bella Craven, who placed first in the 200 medley and broke the school record with a time of 2:21.51 and Roni Shulman, who placed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.63.
The Hawks are looking forward to their next meet as they face West Orange High School during a conference meet at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Roper YMCA.
