Less than a week after Orange County acted on a policy to prohibit parking on the soccer field at Windermere High's home stadium at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park, the Wolverines' second home game of the season has turned into an away game.

Because of evening thunderstorms Friday, Sept. 16, the game between the Wolverines and Panthers was postponed to 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, Sept. 19. However, it now will be hosted at Dr. Phillips' Bill Spoone Stadium, 6500 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando.

Windermere Principal Andrew Leftakis made the announcement last Friday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we will be rescheduling tonight’s varsity football game against Dr. Phillips High School due to the concern of inclement weather and lack of shelter because of limited parking at the stadium," Leftakis said. "I know this news will be disappointing for our students and families who were looking forward to tonight’s game. ... The safety of everyone attending our sporting events is always my top priority. Thank you for your support and understanding."

Windermere parents were upset with the change, citing concerns such as playing on a school night, loss of revenue from tickets, parking and concessions, and the loss of a home game for the Wolverines.
