Orange County hopes to reinstate field parking for Windermere High Homecoming

After repairs to the damaged multipurpose field at Deputy Scott Pine Community Park are made, Orange County officials hope to be able to allow parking on the field for Windermere’s Homecoming game, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23.

In an email sent to concerned residents, Orange County Parks and Recreation Division officials said: “We are hopeful the weather will be cooperative this week and county staff will be able to repair and stabilize the multi-purpose field, allowing for public parking ahead of the Homecoming football game on Friday night.”

According to county officials the amount of rainfall the area received in recent weeks forced the closure of the field parking. 

“The decision to prohibit public parking on the multi-purpose field was made to prevent further damage caused by an unprecedented level of rainfall in the past few weeks,” officials said. “This inclement weather has weakened the structural integrity of the field. Parking and public gathering on that field, under those conditions, created a potential safety concern for students and fans. 

“Continuing to park on the multi-purpose field, while damaged, would have necessitated costly repairs,” officials said. “The time needed to fix the field would have meant a lengthy closure for both public parking as well as the wide range of recreational activities for those who use the field.”
