The Orange County Library System is continuing to set records.

The library system reported recently it reached a record-breaking number of digital book checkouts in 2022.

The number of digital books checked out? 1.9 million.

"This milestone illustrates the continued growth and importance of library lending of ebooks, audiobooks and other digital content as well as the library’s success in serving all members of the community," OCLS said in a press release.

OCLS is ranked 43 of all standalone public libraries, one of 129 public library systems worldwide and third in Florida that surpassed one million digital checkouts last calendar year. The complete list of library systems can be found here.

Steve Powell, library director and CEO, said the record is not only good news for OCLS, but also the community.

“It means that our customers use and appreciate our digital collection, which we are very proud of," Powell said. "It also means that we live in a community that values literacy in every form.”

OCLS has used the Libby library reading app, created by OverDrive, for the last few years. The app serves readers of all ages and interests, to provide readers 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks.

According to OCLS, the highest-circulating title readers borrowed in 2022 was "The Last Thing He Told Me" by Laura Dave.
