Ocoee selects new Planning and Zoning Commission member

Due to Scott’s Kennedy campaign for District 1 commissioner, his seat at the Planning and Zoning Commission became vacant.

The Ocoee City Commission appointed a new member to the Planning and Zoning Commission during its Tuesday, March 7, meeting.

According to the agenda, “Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission shall serve at the pleasure of the City Commission. Any vacancy occurring during the unexpired terms of office of any member shall be filled by the City Commission for the remainder of the term … within (30) days after the vacancy occurs.”

The commission appointed Joe Andrew Crocker as the new member who will serve on the P&Z Commission until the term ends in June 2024.

- The commission recognized the winners of the Black History Month essay contest. The three first-place winners were Cataleya Pasha from Citrus Elementary, Bailey Bucher from Hope Charter School and Trillian Fischler from Innovation Montessori Ocoee School. The overall winner of the contest was Olivia Guinn from Lake Whitney Elementary.
- The commission — with Commissioner George Oliver absent — approved 4-0 all items in the consent agenda. These included the approval of the large scale final plan for the Ocoee Crown Point PUD mixed-use development, the approval to assign the #23-003 asphalt paving projects for Fiscal Year 2023 to Hubbard Construction Company and the approval to use Orange County’s cooperative contract for motor fuel with Mansfield Oil Company of Gainesville Inc.
- The commission approved 4-0 the West Orange Babe Ruth Baseball to host its opening-day parade March 25.
- The commission passed an ordinance with amendments related to the city’s municipal police officers and firefighters retirement trust fund.
- The commission cancelled the Tuesday, April 4, meeting due to Legislative Action Days hosted by the Florida League of Cities from April 3 to April 5 in Tallahassee.
