The Windermere High School student council was recently recognized as a 2023 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council, which is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

According to a press release, "the Windermere High SGA has focused on three main initiatives — student voice, school spirit and service. Each of these is a hallmark of the Windermere High SGA Program. They celebrated school spirit through their student lead annual programs like Claw Day, Homecoming celebrations or their partnership on community events like 'Truck or Treat.'"

Windermere High SGA Advisor Evan N. Brengel said on the press release that he is "consistently blown away by what students can accomplish when given the chance, and their fair spot at the table. My only job is to get them in the room where decisions are happening — they take everything from there."

In order to receive the National Council of Excellence Award, a student council has to meet basic requirements such as written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process. The student council also has to demonstrate successful sponsorship and participation in leadership development activities and be of service to its school and its community.
