Motorcyclist killed in Horizon West crash

The crash occurred at about 8:08 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the intersection of State Road 535 and Chase Road.

A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle crash in Horizon West.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the crash occurred at about 8:08 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the intersection of State Road 535 and Chase Road, at the entrance to the Lakes of Windermere community.

The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old male from Orlando, was driving a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on State Road 535 north of Chase Road. The second vehicle, a 2023 Tesla Model 3, driven by a 40-year-old male of Windermere, was traveling northbound on S.R. 535 north of Chase Road.

According to FHP reports, the motorcyclist was negotiating a right-hand curve and failed to maintain the southbound lane. The motorcyclist veered off the roadway left and collided with a curb.

Subsequently, the motorcyclist was thrown off the vehicle and landed in the outside northbound travel lane of

S.R. 535 in the direct path of the Tesla. As a result, the Tesla driver hit the motorcyclist. He was transported to AdventHealth Winter Garden, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Tesla was uninjured and remained on-scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
