The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and Friends of Lake Apopka are collaborating to educate the public on the latest information about the health of the storied lake upon which Winter Garden relies. Joe Dunn, FOLA board member and former director, will make the presentation and share important historical context at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12. The program, “The State of the Lake,” will be held at Heller Hall, 21 E. Plant St., Winter Garden.

Dunn will outline the lake’s journey from a world-class fishing destination to a polluted, yet steadily recovering, body of water. Restoring Lake Apopka is a herculean task, which FOLA and others have worked toward for many decades. This presentation will offer the continuing journey of the lake, its impact on the West Orange community and the strides made by environmental advocacy organizations.

“The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation looks forward to another partnership with Friends of Lake Apopka,” said Will McCoy, writer and curator at the WGHF. “It’s exciting to inform visitors, new arrivals and long-time residents about the ecological process which affects their daily lives.”

Members of the public can RSVP for this free event by emailing [email protected] or calling (407) 656-3244.
